A dental bridge is a restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. The false tooth or teeth are attached to crowns on either side of the gap, to literally ‘bridge’ the space. A bridge is an ideal choice for people who still have some natural teeth on either side of the missing ones, especially for a single-tooth bridge or front teeth bridge – where a dental implant may not be suitable.

Dental bridgework is becoming more and more popular in the dental industry as an alternative to dentures. The biggest advantage of a dental bridge is that it provides a permanent solution for teeth lost within the same arch. Dental bridges are a quick and effective alternative to dental implants and allow our patients to bite and chew again, and in many cases smile.

Newcastle’s Dental Bridge Experts

At The Good Dentist, our intention is to make your teeth look as natural as possible. That’s why we match the crown to the colour and shape of your existing teeth. A bridge is typically made from ceramic or porcelain, but metal such as gold is sometimes preferred.

Dental bridgework, as well as dental crowns, are as individual as the patient and thorough examinations and consultations are completed prior to beginning treatment. Our dental bridge process typically begins with a preparation appointment (60-90 minutes) and then a procedural appointment (30 minutes.) You may also need a follow-up appointment depending on the complexity of your individual circumstances.

Dental Bridge FAQS

People have several questions about dental bridge procedures and so The Good Dentist has answered the most common ones.

Is dental bridgework painful?
Generally, your dental bridgework isn’t going to be too painful. If it is, you need to let your clinician know so that they can give you more anaesthetic. No dental surgery should be agonising. At The Good Dentist, we talk through your procedure first so that any dental anxieties or concerns are alleviated.

How long does it take to complete a dental bridge?
Traditionally, this treatment requires two visits over a 3 to 4 week period. However, some treatments require additional visits if you have multiple teeth that need dental bridges or dental veneers. We will always strive to give you a perfect result and work together to meet all your expectations.

Cost of dental bridgework?
A dental bridge costs between $1800 – $2100 per tooth. If a tooth requires a core build-up, this is an additional fee of $350

How long does a bridge last?
Dental bridges last between 5-15 years, but how long a bridge lasts generally depends on the patient and how well the bridge is looked after. With good oral care and regular check-ups, you can expect a dental bridge to last well over 10 years.

Is it worth getting a dental bridge?
The prognosis of a tooth depends on a case-by-case basis. We examine each tooth individually with an x-ray and other tests are performed to check the health of the teeth. Our dentists provide you with clinical options that focus on your overall health.

What is the dental bridge made of?
At The Good Dentist, the majority of our bridges are various forms of ceramic. Metal components have been phased out because the new forms of ceramic are very durable. However, porcelain or gold may also be used for aesthetic purposes.
