This is the exciting part!

At The Good Dentist, our dental implant procedure is a major transformative step towards restoring your missing tooth or missing teeth. We are genuinely excited to share this process with you, so you are reassured by our transparent, professional, expert approach.

Implant Procedure: Your First Step Towards A Radiant Smile

The dental implant procedure is a straightforward process that takes well under an hour, performed using keyhole surgery and local anaesthetic.

Our experienced implant dentists utilise a precision surgical guidance system called the MGUIDE to carefully place your new implant, ensuring accurate and comfortable placement.

While it’s natural to experience some discomfort after the implant placement, most patients find this easy to tolerate. We provide good pain relief medication to take home, and most pain usually subsides within 24 hours.

Building a Strong Foundation: Growing New Bone

Once your new titanium dental implant is in place, your bone will start growing around it, creating a robust foundation for your tooth. The growth rate can vary depending on the location of the implant.

For example, bone in the lower jaw is typically more dense and can heal quickly, so lower jaw implants are usually ready for the next step in about three months. On the other hand, bone in the upper jaw is softer and can take up to six months to heal.

Temporary Tooth Options During Healing

A common concern our patients have is whether they will have a gap in their smile during the healing phase. We offer various temporary tooth options, depending on your exact situation. For back teeth where the gaps may not be visible, we use a small metal cap called a “healing abutment” to cover your dental implant and keep it safe.

For visible gaps like front teeth, we prefer placing a temporary tooth on the implant, but this depends on your bone type and quality. This option is suitable for most patients, creating a natural smile while you heal.

Another option is wearing a partial plate called a “flipper” to cover the gap, and we may even adhere this to your teeth on either side of the gap for extra security.

Our implant dentists will discuss all of your temporary tooth choices at your initial consultation, ensuring you feel comfortable and informed and understand exactly what lies ahead.
