The Good Dentist knows prevention is better than cure.

That’s why we encourage you to be proactive about preventative dentistry. We so often see the wrong end (and the more expensive end) of lapsed oral care, so we can’t emphasise enough the importance of preventive dental care through regular check-ups.

Good dentists are more than just about fixing dental problems, they are proactive about getting you involved in your own oral hygiene. A good dentist is not only a problem-solver but also a problem-preventer.

What is Preventative Dentistry?

Preventative dentistry is an essential part of your overall health and well-being through the form of a regular six-month dental check-up, where your oral health is assessed for several issues. Preventive dental care not only assesses your teeth and gums but factors in nutrition, lifestyle, and early detection of potentially serious health issues.

Having you and your family attend every six-months for a routine check-up is our aim. We find this the best way to get to know you, any predispositions, and what you like and dislike about your smile.

Routine Dental Check-Up

A routine dental check-up involves an assessment of your oral health, the health of your gums, and if there is any sign of cavities. Should there be any signs of gum problems, it is our aim to catch things early and prevent complex and costly work from being needed in the future.

Oral Cancer Screening

There are approximately 2500 new cases of oral cancer registered in Australia each year.

At The Good Dentist, we can offer you a comprehensive oral examination, including a check for any lumps or swellings in your mouth, as well as a visual examination of your teeth, gums, and tongue to look for signs of disease. We may also take dental x-rays or scans to help us identify any areas of concern. If necessary, we can refer you to a specialist.

Oral Hygiene advice

The best way to keep your mouth healthy is by brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes. We also provide oral hygiene advice at these routine appointments. This may include using a fluoride mouthwash, flossing regularly between teeth with interdental brushes, and the use of tongue scrapers. We’ll also advise whether you need professional teeth cleaning, which we can provide.
