You may have seen some Newcastle dentists recently advertise up to $1000 in free dental treatments for children.  It’s part of an initiative by the Australian Government that is delivered through Medicare called the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). The scheme is aimed at families who are already receiving other benefits, such as Family Tax Benefit A payments.

At the Good Dentist, we believe this scheme is vitally important to ensure that children attend the dentist regularly. However, not all dentists provide services under the scheme so make sure you check with the dentist before you book your appointment.

Who is eligible?

There are about 3 million children in Australia that are eligible under the CDBS. The schedule covers part or the full cost of some dental services for children aged 2 to 17 years old that are eligible for Medicare.

You or your child must also receive at least one of the following benefits for at least 1 day of the calendar year:

  • Family Tax Benefit Part A
  • Parenting Payment
  • Double Orphan Pension
  • ABSTUDY
  • Carer Payment
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Special Benefit
  • Youth Allowance

Or receive assistance under:

  • the Veterans Children Education Scheme
  • the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme

If you are not sure whether your child is eligible, just get in contact with us on 4929 6007 and we can reach out to Medicare to confirm this for you and make your child a suitable appointment that suits your schedule.

Accessing dental services under the Schedule

It’s best before we proceed with the treatment that you ask any questions you have about treatment costs or any restrictions on the dental items.

When the treatment has been completed on the day, our receptionist will process your claim through Medicare, stress and hassle free.

Dental services available at The Good Dentist that are covered by Medicare under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule include:

  • Examinations
  • X-Rays
  • Cleaning
  • Fissure sealing
  • Fillings
  • Root Canal Therapy
  • Teeth extractions
